Alumni talk series – Zhu Huiming
In life, how do you approach big decisions? Do you tend to follow the safe, practical route that most people take, or do you prefer to pursue your dreams even if they come with uncertainties? If you are the latter, then today’s sharing is for you as we learn how our FIS alumna, Zhu Huiming, managed to juggle her dreams with the reality she faced.
Before coming to FIS, Huiming was a liberal arts student in China. Her passion was in language and communication. However, upon transferring to FIS, she had to adapt to being a science student, as the school’s core curriculum emphasizes science subjects to help students gain admission to top universities in Singapore.
Weighing the choice between entering a prestigious university and pursuing her dream was indeed a challenge for Huiming. Despite having to face the harsh reality of studying science, she understood that having a solid science foundation would give her the freedom to chase her dreams without fear, knowing she had something to fall back on. While navigating this conventional science path Huiming kept her true passion close to her heart by serving as the school’s bilingual announcer.
Ultimately, through her perseverance, she achieved remarkable results and secured a spot in NTU’s Linguistics and Multilingual Studies program—her dream course! The motto of her story is to never give up on your dreams, but to adjust to the realities you face; only then can you truly make your dreams come true.
